There are three key technologies
that only the most sophisticated laser practitioners
are using.
The new-generation of the MEL
70 Excimer Laser is the MEL 80. Horizon Eye Centres
uses the Carl Zeiss Meditec MEL 80,
as well as the Lasersight LSX. These
enhanced lasers shorten the time needed to perform
the operation, which in turn allows for faster visual
recovery.
The Lasersight LSX has a very small
flying spot laser, combined with a high repetition
speed. It also has a very low energy fluence. Together
with the Astramax corneal topographer, the only 3D
stereo topographer in the world, the LSX can produce
superb clinical outcomes.
The outcome shape using the MEL 80
is more optically natural than previous lasers. The
MEL 80 laser produces aspheric/prolate corneas (remembering
that prolate is better than oblate), to help reduce
any induced higher-order aberrations, especially spherical
aberrations. This ensures the best possible results.
The MEL 80 Excimer Laser has a wide diameter treatment
zone, thereby making night vision problems very unlikely.
The MEL 80 is not available in the USA and is maintained
to standards exceeding the manufacturer's protocols.
The Carl Zeiss Meditec
WASCA Workstation has the highest resolution
wavefront aberrometer available. The wavefront treatment
not only improves the potential for 20/20 vision,
it has the potential to restore eyes to better than
20/20 vision. The visual system is actually capable
of seeing 20/10 or better. This means that on a standard
eye chart, you would be able to see letters that are
twice as small as the 20/20 letters. Most people cannot
see beyond 20/20 because of very subtle imperfections
within their visual system. Wavefront technology allows
the surgeon to first map these subtle visual imperfections
(similar to a unique fingerprint) and then develop
a laser treatment plan to correct them.
The Orbscan and
Astramax technology is used to help determine
your surgical eligibility with certainty. At Horizon
Eye Centres, we need to satisfy ourselves that we
are assessing the health of your eye, and are the
only UK clinics to have access to both technologies.
The Orbscan and Astramax set a new standard for precision
measurement of the anterior segment of the eye and
provides data in the form of topographic surfaces.
Elevation topography of the anterior cornea enables
Horizon Eye Centres to visualize the shape of the
corneas more accurately, which leads to accurate diagnoses
and consistent surgical results.
