CK is safe and very effective 
We have performed more than 1000 CK procedures, far more than any other centres in the UK. Here are some of our results, which were presented by Mr David Allamby, FRCS, FRCOphth at the European Society for Reractive and Cataract Surgery Conference in Munich, September 2003.
Figure 1 - Distance Vision: By 3 months after surgery, 100% of patients had full binocular vision of 20/20, whereas prior to surgery, only 51% of patients could achieve this level of vision. Impressively, 3 out of 4 (73%) patients could see even better with 20/16 vision, compared to 1 out of 4 pre-CK!
Figure 2 - Reading Vision: By 3 months after surgery, 100% of patients could read newspaper sized print, whereas prior to surgery, only 6% of patients could achieve this level of vision. 85% of patients could even read tiny 5 point print, such as you might find at the bottom of a contract. with a slight reduction in effect, by 6 months, fully 98% of patients could read news and magazine print, with the other 2% opting for enhancement.
NB: Book print is N10 to N12, news print is often N8
Figure 3 - Distance and Reading Vision: By 3 months after surgery, 100% of patients could read newspaper sized print and see an excellent 20/25 distance vision, whereas prior to surgery, only 6% of patients could achieve this level of vision. 85% of patients could even read tiny 5 point print, AND see 20/20 in the distance, which 0% of people could do prior to having CK correction.
Figure 4 - Safety of the treatment: By 3 months after surgery for distance vision, 95% of patients had maintained or even improved their best potential vision. One in four patients had actually gained 1 line of vision on the test chart. No patients lost 2 or more lines of vision.
Figure 5 - Predictabilityof treatment: By 3 months after surgery for distance vision, 92% of patients fell within 1 dioptre of the predicted treatment,significantly above FDA safety requirements. 68% were within 0.5 dioptres. The trend line shows a highly predictable result of the FDA treatment nomogram.
