Most
Americans satisfied with laser surgery results, study
suggests The vast majority of Americans that had their vision
corrected by laser surgery are highly satisfied with the
results and said that the overall quality of their lives
and daily routines has improved, according to the results
of a Harris Interactive survey released by The Eye Surgery
Education Council (ESEC), the public education arm of
ASCRS.

FDA
receives "outstanding" data on presbyopia from
Refractec corporation
The Refractec Corporation, makers of the Viewpoint CK
system (tm) have recently submitted extensive trial data
to the FDA, for patients who only needed reading glasses
and whom were treated with conductive keratoplasty. Dr.
Dan Durrie, one of the investigators, commented that the
results were "outstanding - with the best safety
data ever submitted for (this type of) correction."

LASEK
means no flap risks for sporty people
Reports have highlighted instances where the LASIK flap
has been dislodged after injury, even years after the
procedure was performed. Those people who participate
in sports where contact with the eye is a possibility
can eliminate this risk with the advanced surface LASEK
treatment.
10-year
data shows surface laser treatment to be safe and effective
New research following people who had their eyes treated
with surface laser (PRK) from 1990/1 showed long-term
stability and effectiveness. For those with mild myopia
(short-sight), there was only a reduction of only 0.25
dioptres over 10 years, which was thought to be from progression
of the myopia, rather than reduciton of laser effect.
